Ford Mustang 5th Generation 'Bullitt'

Available only in Dark Highland Green or Black, the 'Bullitt' is sold, capitalizing on the enduring link to the 1968 Steve McQueen film of the same name.

While the standard Mustang can look a little anaemic with it's undernourished alloys, and a decidely un-muscley V6 under the good, and the full-bore Shelby GT500 appears a little 'Saxo', this particular edition probably represents the fifth generation pony car, best.

Whilst the exhaust note is fettled to mimic the iconic sounds of the car in the '68 movie, it's not all 'show and no go'. Made for only one year from 2008, with Ford Racing Technology preparing a 315bhp, 4.6 litre V8, the 'Bullitt' will zip to 60mph from standstill in 5.0 seconds. Dead. The air intakes have had their restrictions lifted over the more standard models, the engine management system has been suitably revised, and it's all allied to the swift-shifting Tremec 5-speed manual.

It's a simple car, and not exceedingly expensive: just under $32,000. Ford successfully revitalized one of their most important cars when relaunching the Mustang brand in 2005, and in the 'Bullitt', give an iconic movie car a second futuristic wind. They haven't overdone the proposition, rather remembering the car's roots as a fast, desirable yet affordable 'pony' car.
