Chevrolet Chevelle SS396 El Camino

Tucked away in a North-West London garage, this 396 Pickup packs a big-block V8 and in this high performance format was made for one year only.

The standard Chevelle was a long running car - thirteen years - but as the muscle car battle heated up, GM's engineers did the normal thing: they stuffed the mid-sized sedan with larger and larger engines. In this '68 model car, there's a 375 bhp 6.5 litre CID with well over 410 lb ft of torque.

The colour on this car - Monaco Orange - was one of two specific to this model (the other being Daytona Yellow). Only 5196 of these particular cars were ever made, and very few would have made their way over to our shores.

This niche, half-car/half-truck sold out quite easily and even to it's day is a prized find at regular American Muscle Car club meets and conventions.
