Bentley Blower

So I'm standing there next to this most beautiful Bentley, when from around the corner cycles a chap. Late 50's early 60's, he pulls up his bicycle. It's one of those folding city bikes. He's wearing immaculate loafers and the hair is heavily 'Sassoon'd'. Obviously a local.

"Hmmmm, this does look entirely orginal", he says in a clipped upper class tone.

He talked absentmindedly through all the detail: that the fenders were replacements; that it may have properly raced. That the dash was all original wood, showing where it had started to 'rot'. I couldn't get a word in edgeways. He then described why the leaf springs had been bound and how they did it. He mentioned that he had owned over 150 cars in his time. Even a Bentley S3. Then just when I started to think he was an incredible story teller, he pulled out his half-moon glasses, and pored over his mobile phone (you know the way your Dad does, peering down their nose...) and found some pictures.

And there was the evidence.

He then told me about how he had a lot of toys but some had to go. He had had a very expensive divorce, with the ex taking £20m in settlement (she was in cahoots with her divorce lawyer; he dropped names like Fiona Shackleton, "I know a lot of things...."), that he was a well-known musician in the 60's and did a few sessions with the Beatles. That he'd been in Hollywood.

Then his phone rang. A dinner date for tonight. Some Slovakian ex-super model. Last night's rendezvous with his Japanese ladyfriend, had really cheesed him off and he wanted to get back in touch with a Congolese lady who owned a Diamond mine. He apologised for digressing.

"Anyway, back to the car......!", he trumpeted.

Absolutely riveting. True or false I don't know. But I googled his name with some of the facts I have at my disposal, and I'm pretty taken aback. Then just as I'm about to pull away, I asked him...."Have you seen a Ferrari California tootling round here?"......Yes he had. He knew everything......
