This is the second series, built for two years, 72-74 only. Even though the design to the naked eye seems relatively blocky, it was extremely aerodynamic for it's era, and was one of the cars that solidified Alfa's name with pacy, affordable, yet evocative saloons and coupes.
Before many other manufacturers, Alfa had long been at the forefront of packing performance engines into lightweight vehicles, and with some fitted with dual-barrel Weber carburettors in a body weighing a little over 1000kg, wet sumped, at full revs (6000 rpm) 103 bhp was available. If you think that a '98 MK4 Golf has only 99 bhp and weighs up to 300-400 kilos more....
