Lotus Carlton
This car's legendary claim to fame was, at the time, to be the fastest saloon car in the world. With a top speed over 175mph, and available in just the solitary dark hued green paintwork, 350 rolled off the production lines at Hethel.
Faster than all the equivalent German rivals of the era, that subtle added Lotus badge just below the A-pillar, lent the saloon a kudos that 'M' and 'AMG' couldn't approach. You just knew that the recipe didn't solely involve playing with the engine and releasing more horses. It also entailed tailoring the Lotus race-winning ethos to a large four-door, family, saloon.
This is a car that whilst I'd first seen a very long time ago, had eluded me of late. Where are they all?

There's one tucked away in the same garage as I store my racing car in.........
I keep hearing of a mythical version that the owner had special "original" wheels cast for. Allegedly all 4 wheels have spokes that lean in the same direction. Story is he didn't like the fact that each side of the car had different wheels!!?? Will it ever be confirmed....
